Price was the first to show that many unsolved puzzles in animal behavior could be understood by applying the logic of game theory. Price's work stimulated Maynard Smith's interest which eventually led Maynard Smith to develop his concept of the Evolutionarily Stable Strategy (ESS: Maynard Smith & Price, 1973) and to write the classic book Evolution and the Theory of Games (Maynard Smith, 1982)

I first became aware of George Price via dear departed lemonyellow. This led me to my first encounter with Andrew Brown and The Darwin Wars. I just learned that Maynard Smith died but none of the obituaries I've seen mention Price.
